This blog is part of a larger class called Information Architecture for Entrepreneurs to help entrepreneurs effectively build their ventures.

Ecosystems as places where many different competing goals are intertwined. Facebook, has groups, events, the feed, messaging. It has expanded from one use case to many.

Reddit, with its many different subreddits each of which can be thought of as a neighborhood unto itself.

A city is an ecosystem of interaction, where there are many competing user groups with different goals — -bankers, artists, residents, politicians, tourists, homeless. Each of these user groups has their own goals, and different infrastructure that is designed to help them or constrain their goals. A city has many different interactions blocks — gardens for relaxation, roadways for transportation, homes for residing.

Next Steps

  • In the long run, what would the full vision of your product look like if you could build out not just the primary feature, but expand it to a full platform with many different features. What would you add? What conflicts would arise? Would you keep one singular goal, or what would you add to it? Write down two to three paragraphs of what your ten-year vision for your company would look like.
